Dr. S. Sacchidanand
Dr. S. Sacchidanand is a distinguished medical professional known for his remarkable contributions to dermatology and medical education in India. Born in 1960, in Malur, he demonstrated excellence early on, excelling academically. He completed his MBBS from JNMC Belgaum, securing a Gold Medal in Anatomy, followed by an MD in Dermatology and multiple prestigious fellowships, including an FRCP from Glasgow.
His career in dermatology saw him rise from Lecturer in 1991 to Head of the Department in 2005 at BMCRI, where he pioneered advancements such as establishing the first Dermatosurgery OT and Dermatology ICU in a government institution. His leadership extended beyond academia, serving as Registrar (Evaluation) at RGUHS, Director of Medical Education for Karnataka, and Chairman of multiple state medical boards. From 2018 to 2021, he held the esteemed position of Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS.
Dr. Sacchidanand has been a trailblazer, introducing the first government hair transplantation program and pioneering fellowships in various dermatological subspecialties. He has organized numerous national and international conferences. A prolific academician, he has authored and edited 15 books, published over 120 research articles (20 international, 100 national), and served as Principal Investigator for 18 drug studies. He has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Dr. B. C. Roy Award and the Dr. K. C. Kandhari Award.
Beyond his professional achievements, he is known for his humility, kindness, and dedication to mentoring. He continues to inspire the medical community with his passion and leadership.
